Martin Esparza Espinoza, 56, was arrested on one count of manslaughter, which is a second-degree felony. According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Weber County, Espinoza was working as a security guard at a night club in Ogden at the time of the incident.
Arrest documents allege that a man “who supposedly would not pay for tacos” began fighting with security, and Espinoza was involved. Two other security guards were also involved in the incident.
The guards are accused of leaving the victim lying in the middle lane of Washington Boulevard after the fight. Almost immediately after the suspects left the victim in the road, documents say a car pulled out of a nearby parking lot and ran over the victim.
The victim reportedly died from “the massive injuries” he received.
“It is unknown at this time if the driver of the car was involved in the fight or not,” documents said.
No further information about the incident has been released. The identity of the victim was not yet shared.
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
