BATON ROUGE, La. (
Louisiana First) — The streets of downtown Baton Rouge were a sea of pink as thousands gathered for the annual Spanish Town Parade, a beloved Mardi Gras tradition known for its over-the-top floats, satirical humor, and festive spirit.
Excitement filled the air as paradegoers lined the streets, eager to catch beads and revel in the uniquely vibrant celebration.
“I love that the pink just highlights the uniqueness of Baton Rouge because we are our own unique city,” said Shannon Hamilton, a parade attendee.
From flamboyant floats to creative costumes, the Spanish Town Parade is a spectacle like no other. For many, it’s more than just a parade—it’s a time-honored tradition.
“It’s such a special Baton Rouge tradition,” said Dylan Ferguson. “I love coming out, seeing everybody, and it’s just one of my favorite days of the year.”
This year, first-time attendee Ja’Leah Emanuel eagerly anticipated the event.
“I look forward to seeing pretty pink flamingos, candy, and a good time,” she said.
One of the parade’s standout features is its signature satirical humor, which keeps the crowd entertained year after year.
“I love the floats. I love the puns and the laughter, and just the camaraderie down here—it’s wonderful,” added Hamilton.
As the final floats made their way through the streets, the spirit of Spanish Town lived on. For locals, the parade isn’t just an event; it’s a pink-filled party that brings the city together year after year.
Whether it’s your first time or your 20th, one thing is certain—there’s nothing quite like Spanish Town.
