Man wanted for Huron killing arrested in Coalinga, deputies say
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A wanted man was arrested Friday on charges related to a 2020 homicide, Fresno County Deputies said.

Around 11 p.m. Jan. 26, 2020, deputies say police received calls of shots fired at the Encino Motel on 36885 S. Lassen Ave. in Huron. On scene, officers found 27-year-old Javier Merino Perez of Huron under a carport suffering from a gunshot wound.

Per deputies, Perez was transported to the hospital where he remained in critical condition until succumbing to his injuries four days later.

Deputies say 33-year-old Cesar Oropeza Velasquez of Coalinga was identified as the primary suspect. Over five years later, on Feb, 28, 2025, Coalinga Police contacted Velasquez and discovered he had an active arrest warrant for homicide.

He was arrested and booked at the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of homicide – his bail is set at $1.5 million.
