Uptown New Orleans illuminated with three spectacular parades

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Three parades rolled on Thursday night on the Uptown New Orleans route, Babylon, Chaos and Muses.

Folks saw three spectacular parades, with one of the top all-women’s krewes closing out the night.

It’s a fan favorite night, as thousands of people crowded the Uptown streets, eager for the parades.

“I’m thrilled, man. I never come up down the road. I live down there in Buras. This is the only time I ever come down here. Man it’s beautiful down here,” said one paradegoer.

The night began with the Knights of Babylon, followed quickly by the Knights of Chaos and then it all concluded with the crowd-favorite all-female Krewe of Muses, comprised of over 1,100 women.

“It’s a women’s parade and we’re out here for them,” said a paradegoer.

“It’s a women’s parade. It’s amazing! And they have the best floats, the best throws. They’re amazing. We love them,” said another fan.

This year Muses celebrated their 25th anniversary, and for this special year, they went with the theme of “Super Muse, Age of the Sheros.” Super Muse is a fictional hero the Krewe has created whose mission is to save New Orleans.

“Set 20 years ago, an average ordinary New Orleans woman came home after Katrina, and she opened her refrigerator, and the volatile combination of baking soda, champagne, all Chinese food, and spoiled milk exploded, and gave her superpowers,” said Virginia Saussy, Theme & Float Chairwoman.

As Muses rolled, everyone had one objective on their mind: to get their hands on one of the most coveted throws in all of Mardi Gras: a high-heeled shoe.

“Well my older sister lives here in New Orleans, and we all have a shelf full of shoes, but you never have enough,” said Paige Houser.

The party continues Uptown tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. with the Krewe of Hermes.
