Parade goers react to the krewes of Druids and Alla

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Krewes of Druids and Alla rolled on Wednesday night in Uptown New Orleans.

It was a great night with parade goers both new and old looking to get their hands on the latest Mardi Gras loot.

Two Uptown staples in Druids and Alla took the streets, putting on a phenomenal show for all to see.

“I live on the Northshore, and I’m a teacher over there, so I got off of school, got the kids, got over here. My family lives over here. We all Mardi Gras together,” said parade goer Jourdan Haeuser.

Along with the 18 floats in Druids and 22 floats in Alla, both parades host a plethora of marching bands and dance groups, including the Crescent City Fae, who have been marching in Druids for seven years.

“My good friend that’s in this crew told me to come along and I tried out. It’s just been amazing and I love Mardi Gras. It’s my favorite season and I’m just obsessed,” said Crescent City Fae member Angelina Sclafani.

Of course, everyone is looking for some great throws, with the prize jewel of the night being the hand-decorated genie lamps of Alla that many parade goers have never been able to snag before.

“I’ve never, never in my life, so hopefully we can get one this year,” said one parade goer.

For parades this spectacular, it’s no wonder why people from outside the state come to witness them, such as Richard and Susan Yow, who came in from Atlanta.

“This is so much fun. I would love to come back. I hope I get to come back. I can’t imagine that the level of excitement goes down,” said Richard and Susan Yow.

On Thursday night there will be three more Uptown parades, starting with Knights of Babylon at 5:30.
