Abilene man accused of tying up dog on side of road because he ‘couldn’t afford to care for it’

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene man is accused of tying up a dog on the side of the road because he “couldn’t afford to care for it.”

Harold Marshall was booked into the Taylor County Jail for Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals Wednesday in connection to the allegations.

Court documents state police found the dog tied up on the side of the road in June and took it to the shelter.

Shelter staff then reported a man had tried to surrender the same dog earlier that day, according to the documents.

When questioned about the dog, the documents state Marshall initially claimed it escaped then admitted to tying it to a post, “because he couldn’t afford to care for it.”

Marshall remains held in the Taylor County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
