SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A Provo gynecologist is now facing 17 sexual assault charges after he was charged Wednesday with two additional felonies, according to court documents.
David Broadbent, 77, has been accused of sexually assaulting multiple female patients while practicing as a gynecologist in Utah County. Broadbent first came under scrutiny in 2022 when dozens of women sued him for sexual battery, claiming he abused “numerous other women over the course of three decades.” More than 170 women have since joined the civil lawsuit against Broadbent.
Broadbent was first criminally charged in June 2024, and the court has filed additional sexual assault charges in the following months. On Wednesday, Feb. 26, authorities charged Broadbent with two counts of felony object rape for an alleged incident dating back to January 2020, bringing the total felony count to 17.
The latest charges refer to an alleged incident from January 2020, where the victim came into Broadbent’s Provo office for a breast exam. The victim said Broadbent performed a pap smear despite her continual requests for him to stop.
The victim’s claims are similar to those of other victims who have accused Broadbent of sexual assault, with many of the women saying he touched them inappropriately in a way that was painful and medically unnecessary.
Broadbent pleaded not guilty for the first allegations and has not entered a plea for the more recent charges. He has a pretrial conference on March 17 for the first two charges filed in 2024.
