CHICAGO (WGN) — Authorities have recovered an ambulance that was stolen Wednesday from the ambulance bay at an area hospital.

The red and white-colored Elite ambulance was taken from Swedish Hospital, located at 2739 West Foster Avenue, at about 12:30 p.m. There was no patient in the private ambulance when it was taken, a police spokesperson told WGN.

It’s unclear the exact route the driver took out of the city, but radio transmissions from authorities indicated they were able to track the ambulance with GPS. Police found the vehicle at a location along Skokie Boulevard in Northbrook, about 15 miles away from the hospital.

One man was taken into custody by Northbrook police, the Chicago police spokesperson said. No additional information about him has been released.

WGN has reached out to the ambulance’s owner seeking comment.
