Search ongoing for missing boater after unmanned boat found in St. Martin Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents are searching for a missing boater in Banister Canal in lower St. Martin Parish.

Agents learned about the missing boater at around 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25. A commercial fisherman found an unmanned 18-foot aluminum boat before calling authorities. Agents’ investigation found that the operator was ejected from the boat after it struck a pylon.

The last person in contact with the missing boater said he went fishing with his dog around 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24. The dog was found near the site of the incident.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office are assisting with the search.
