One person dead in Wednesday morning Opelousas shooting
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place near Opelousas Jr. High School early this morning, authorities said.
Police were called to a report of shots fired near the corner of W. Jefferson and Madeline streets around 7 a.m. today. One person has died in the shooting, officials said.
Officials put the school on a temporary lockdown for precautionary reasons, but it was soon lifted.
The investigation led police to a site near the corner of S. Railroad Avenue and Hardy Street.
Neither the identity of the victim nor any other details were immediately released. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
