WEST MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — A West Monroe High School coach has been arrested for allegedly placing a student-athlete in chokehold, knocking him unconscious in the process.

On Feb. 5, West Monroe High School coach, Cedric D. Goins Sr., 33, was accused of assaulting a student-athlete.

According to court documents, the student reportedly entered Goins’s office to get food before their game that evening, and Goins allegedly told the student to put the food down.

After the student put his food down, Goins allegedly said, “Keep my name out of children’s conversations.”

Officials said, Goins then allegedly turned the student around and placed him in a chokehold. The student reportedly went unconscious and woke up in Goins’s office.

Authorities were able to confirm the student’s story after they were advised by several witnesses.

Goins was arrested on Feb. 24 and charged with cruelty to juveniles and second-degree battery. He is scheduled to appear in the fourth judicial district court on Feb. 26.
