The following is a news release from AAA Idaho.

BOISE – After about five weeks of soaring gas prices, Idaho drivers are getting a chance to catch their breath to kick off the week.

According to AAA, Monday’s average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $3.19 – about two cents cheaper than a week ago, but 15 cents more than a month ago and eight cents more than a year ago.

The national average currently sits at $3.14 per gallon, which is also two cents less than a week ago, but just a penny more than a month ago and 12 cents cheaper than a year ago.

Idaho held steady at 11th place for the most expensive fuel this week. Regional neighbors Washington ($4.15), Nevada ($3.88), and Oregon ($3.77) are paying more, while drivers in Montana ($3.10), Utah ($3.04), Colorado ($3.04) and Wyoming ($3.00) are paying less. The cheapest fuel in the country can be purchased today in Mississippi at $2.67 per gallon.

“Idaho weather is warming up this week, and gasoline demand could, too,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “While we hope for additional savings at the pump, we will have to see how things unfold – fingers crossed for another calm week.”

Inexpensive crude oil is helping keep gas prices from skyrocketing further. The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude is currently trading near $71 per barrel, which is about the same as a week ago, but nearly $4 cheaper than a month ago and $5 less than a year ago.

Here’s a look at Idaho gas prices, as of Feb. 24:

Boise – $3.16
Coeur d’Alene – $3.23
Franklin – $3.05
Idaho Falls – $3.07
Lewiston – $3.26
Pocatello – $3.13
Rexburg – $3.10
Twin Falls – $3.18
