Bruins end season with high-scoring road win

PORTLAND, Ore. (GFU Athletics) — In the final game of the 20224-25 season for the Bruins men’s basketball team, the Bruins edged the Puget Sound Loggers in a thriller, 94-92.

In a game that was a true wire-to-wire contest, it was GFU that jumped out on a fast 8-0 run to start the game, powered by threes from Jake Center and Momo Stokes. The Loggers responded to the Bruins’ run with a 14-6 run of their own that tied the game at 14 at the 16-minute mark. After falling behind briefly, the Bruins hit three triples on their way to a 13-2 run over four minutes that gave them back a commanding 27-19 lead halfway through the first half.

The Loggers managed to climb back slowly in the waning minutes of the first half, slowly chipping away at the Fox lead to three, 37-34 with five minutes left in the half. The Bruins used a quick spurt of offense moments later to extend the lead back out to five, 44-39. The teams traded buckets for the final two minutes of the half, after which the Bruins left on top, 50-48.

The second half started with a Loggers’ 6-0 run that gave UPS a 54-50 lead. Center and Jake Bishop hit back-to-back threes that gave Fox back the lead, 56-54. The Bruins continued to edge out the Loggers, taking a 64-54 lead after a Noah Marte triple. UPS blitzed back, going on a 7-0 run that brought the game to 64-61 with just over ten minutes left in the game.

The final ten minutes of the game featured virtually a dead-lock tie, with the Bruins coming out on top behind a heroic final minute from Momo Stokes. The senior scored 14 points in ten minutes, hitting a pair of threes which included the dagger three with 40 seconds left to put GFU up 94-88. The Loggers chipped away at the free-throw line to inch closer, pulling within two points with two seconds left, with the Bruins needing to get the inbounds pass in to finish off the game. Fox was able to get the ball in, ending the game and sealing the GFU win.
