38-year-old Richard Dennis stabbed a Camden County police officer on Sunday at 5:54 p.m. during what police are calling an “unprovoked assault”.
The officer was conducting a business check in the area of Broadway and Chestnut Street in Camden, when the stabbing occured.
The officer was immediately transported to Cooper University Hospital and is currently in critical, but stable condition.
Dennis was arrested minutes later in the area of South 7th Street and Kaighn Avenue.
Dennis was charged with the following offenses:
- 1st-degree Attempted Murder
- 3rd-degree Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- 3rd-degree Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
- 3rd-degee Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose
- 4th-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
Dennis has been remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility, pending a detention hearing.
