According to LPD, officers were called to the 9300 block of Otis Avenue around 8:48 a.m. to investigate a domestic disturbance involving a man and a female. As they began to make their way to the scene, police learned the man used a gun to force the female into a vehicle while she was on the phone with 911 dispatchers.
When officers made it to the area, the man fled the scene in the car he had forced the female into. After the man drove away from the scene, a police chase began.
LPD reported that the chase ended when the man crashed the car he was driving near the intersection of 46th Street and Emerson Avenue. Neither the man nor the female were injured in the crash.
Police confirmed the man was arrested after the chase. A public police report identified the suspect as 22-year-old Quintez Gray.
Gray now faces seven preliminary charges:
- Battery — Class B Misdemeanor
- Domestic battery — Class A Misdemeanor
- Criminal confinement using a vehicle — Level 5 Felony
- Kidnapping — Level 5 Felony
- Reckless driving causing property damage — Class B Misdemeanor
- Reckless driving — Class C Misdemeanor
- Resisting law enforcement in a vehicle — Level 6 Felony
LPD indicated that its officers recovered a firearm from the vehicle the male used during the chase. Per a report, police also logged a white 2020 Buick Enclave, a firearms permit, a driver’s license, Winchester 40 caliber ammunition in a box, and a black iPhone as evidence.
Lawrence police have not yet specified the exact age of the female involved in the chase. As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the chase had been made available.
