Rapides Parish inmate dies after medical emergency; investigation ongoing

ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) – The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate who suffered a medical emergency at the downtown detention center.

According to initial reports, Kimberly Renee Goodman, 42, of Alexandria, was under medical observation when she was found in distress around 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20. Medical personnel initiated life-saving measures, suspecting a possible overdose, and administered Narcan and an automated external defibrillator (AED). Acadian Ambulance responded and transported Goodman to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit are conducting an investigation. The Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy and toxicology tests. Authorities do not suspect foul play at this time but are awaiting further results.

Goodman had been in custody since Feb. 16 on charges of theft under $1,000, resisting an officer, and contempt of court.
