According to the Unified Police Department, they received a call around 9:47 p.m. out of Magna from a woman who said that she was in her car with a driver that wouldn’t stop and let her out. At this point she began texting 911 for help, and police began to pursue.
The pursuit began around the area of 3300 S and I-15, and the suspect led police throughout north Salt Lake Valley. At several points the chase went onto I-15. A helicopter from the Utah Highway Patrol was also dispatched to the chase and several agencies aided Unified in the pursuit.
Eventually the chase went into state street, and police were able to spike the vehicle around 4700 South.
For two more blocks the suspect drove north on State Street until finally ditching the vehicle around 3900 S and began to flee on foot. Police were in place to apprehend the suspect, and a K9 unit was able to catch the suspect and arrest him.
At this time the suspects name has not been released, and the case remains under investigation. However, police told ABC4.com that the suspect was allegedly a parole fugitive. The owner of vehicle was unharmed during the pursuit.
It was also discovered that the suspects girlfriend had been present in the vehicle during the chase. She is not believed to be a suspect as this time.
