Opelousas men arrested, charged with possessing drugs, machine gun

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — Two men were arrested and charged with drug and weapons offenses in a raid on a home in Opelousas on Monday, authorities said.

Anthony Tyrone Minor, Jr., 20, and Curtis Fields, Jr., 24, both of Opelousas, are each charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm in the presence of drugs, possession of a machine gun and possession of drug paraphernalia. Minor was also charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detectives, Lafayette Police Department Narcotics Detectives and St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team conducted a drug raid at Minor’s home on La. 749 near Opelousas on Monday, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

“Fields and Minor concealed themselves in a closet and were in possession of an illegally modified Glock 9mm pistol equipped with a ‘Glock Switch’ rendering it capable of fully automatic fire,” Guidroz said.

Authorities also allegedly found a high-capacity drum magazine, a high-capacity extended magazine and a standard magazine, all loaded with ammunition, along with 1,081 grams of marijuana with an estimated street value of over $21,000.
