Nearly 100 Boeing employees to lose jobs due to layoffs in north Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — According to Warn List, nearly 100 Huntsville Boeing employees were notified Tuesday that they would soon lose their jobs.

The list shows that 71 employees will be laid off starting April 18 from The Boeing Company. The employees will receive two months of severance pay following the layoff.

This latest batch of layoffs comes after 150 were let go of their positions in December of 2024.

Boeing announced in October that it planned to cut about 10% of employees, about 17,000 employees, in the coming months, citing financial and regulatory struggles.

Boeing said the layoffs are part of continued adjustments to its workforce.

As announced in October 2024, we continue to adjust our workforce levels to align with our financial reality and a more focused set of priorities,” a company spokesperson told News 19. “We are committed to ensuring our employees have support during this challenging time.”

The company said most affected employees will leave the company two months after they are notified, and if eligible, will receive severance pay, career transition services and subsidized healthcare for up to three months after they are laid off.

The company said despite the layoffs, they have been able to partially mitigate previously announced reductions to its Space Launch System (SLS) program.

“As Boeing and NASA continue to finalize contract revisions for Boeing’s work on the Space Launch System program, we have successfully mitigated a majority of the previously announced workforce reductions,” Boeing said. “While Boeing is committed to supporting NASA’s Artemis missions and delivering capabilities for the core stages and Exploration Upper Stage (EUS), workforce adjustments are still necessary to drive efficiency and cost-effectiveness on the program as portions of Boeing’s SLS work matures from development to production. We will redeploy teammates where possible but expect to proceed with fewer than 200 involuntary layoffs in accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.”
