Man arrested in death of woman found in suitcase on Sauvie Island

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was arrested Thursday after an 80-year-old woman was found dead on Sauvie Island Monday afternoon, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies originally reported the body was discovered inside a suitcase on the bank of the Willamette River near 15200 Northwest Gillihan Road.

The victim was identified as 80-year-old Judy Hurley – also known as Judy Fivecoats – and the Medical Examiner confirmed homicide as her cause of death.

After initial investigation, deputies arrested 54-year-old Michael Moody on second-degree murder and other charges at an apartment in the St. Johns neighborhood.

No further information, including the events leading up to Hurley’s death – has been released at this time.
