Officers say they began an investigation on Tuesday after receiving a report of a possible sexual assault that occurred at El Capitan High School between a staff member and a student.
Throughout the investigation, detectives say they identified 34-year-old John Mobley III as the suspect. Mobley has been employed as an Intervention Coordinator at the high school since August 2024.
Officers say he was located, taken into custody and booked in the Merced County Jail under suspicion of statutory rape and various charges.
Jail records show he was booked into Merced County Jail at around 5:40 p.m. on Thursday.
