Vacant house fire nearly engulfs adjacent, occupied home

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Lafayette fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire started in a vacant home off Evangeline Thruway.

Around midnight, officials responded to a house fire at the intersection of SW Evangeline Thruway and Sixth Street.

Officials said, when they arrived, they found a vacant house fully engulfed in flames, spreading to the occupied house next door.

As a result, officials said, the vacant house sustained heavy fire damage, while the house next door sustained minor damages, and the owners of the house were able to escape without any injuries.

Officials determined the fire originated inside the vacant home, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation
