Roadways likely to “refreeze” due to dropping temperatures

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet warns drivers of the possibility of black ice to form overnight.

Officials say while crews have been on the roads clearing snow and debris, temperatures are expected to drop in the single digits which could refreeze the roadways.

It is said snow and ice personnel will be ready to address roadways as needed throughout Wednesday night.

KYTC provided the following tips when it comes to driving on black ice:

  • Reduce your speed and leave extra space between you and other cars.
  • Don’t rely on cruise control when roads are icy.
  • Black ice can appear as a glossy, shiny surface.
  • Low-beam headlights can help you see icy pavement.
  • If you skid, ease off the gas and steer in the direction you want to go.
  • A higher gear can help with traction.
