Louisiana governor supports possibility of NHL bringing hockey team to New Orleans

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Kevin Weekes, a former NHL player, sparked excitement after posting about a meeting in New York about an NHL expansion team in New Orleans.

“In speaking to Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly and other sources involved, I can confirm that there was a recent meeting in NYC with a group expressing their interest in bringing an @NHL expansion team to New Orleans,” Weekes said.

“Big game today, USA vs. Canada! It’s time Louisiana has an @NHL Team. The economic impact would be substantial and having the Stanley Cup in the Big Easy would be a win for all,” Gov. Jeff Landry said in a social media post.

The USA and Canada will play against each other in the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 in Boston.
