According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 7600 block of Shelby Street at approximately 12:17 p.m. Wednesday. On scene, police discovered an unresponsive male in the backseat of a vehicle.
The male was pronounced dead and was noted as having “injuries consistent with trauma.”
It wasn’t until Thursday, after an examination of the deceased by the Marion County Coroner’s Office, that the death was determined to be a homicide. Officials now believe the victim suffered injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.
The coroner’s office identified the deceased as 21-year-old Demetrius Starts.
