Bottom Line? Increasing clouds Wednesday with wet weather arriving late tonight into Thursday
A southwest flow has set up for today allowing for milder air ahead of our next storm. High temperatures will climb near average with mid to upper 40s expected along the Wasatch Front, a mix of 40s and 50s in Central Utah and low 60s in St. George.
We have some pre-frontal showers possible in Northern Utah this afternoon and tonight, widespread heavier precipitation is expected overnight. Precipitation will be snow above 4800 feet, with valley precipitation starting as rain due to the mild southwest flow ahead of the core of the storm.
The Cottonwoods could pick up a quick five to 10 inches from this storm, with the Northern mountains looking to accumulate two to eight inches. This won’t be an abundance of moisture for the central mountains with a few inches expected.
With the heaviest precipitation expected overnight, we could drive the snow level down to the valley floor so we could see a wintry mix, or straight snow, in valleys in Northern and Central Utah. As a result, we are expecting rain to an inch of snow for Wasatch Front valleys, one to three inches for the benches, and two to four inches for mountain valleys.
The wind shift will bring a Northwest flow, so we remain unsettled with a mix of rain and snow showers expected through the afternoon and evening. Drier air starts to push in with a ridge of high-pressure building for the close of the work week.
With high pressure in control for the weekend, we will see a warming trend, more sunshine and dry skies. A taste of Spring is ahead!
