Police find 13-year-old runaways from Texas involved in crash on Louisiana highway

NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — On Tuesday morning, deputies with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office say they responded to a crash scene on US-71 near the Natchitoches-Winn Parish line and found two runaway 13-year-old reported runaways in the vehicle.

According to a social media post from the sheriff’s office, around 5:00 a.m., deputies, Louisiana State Police, and Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash.

According to the deputies, a 13-year-old from Atlanta, Texas, was operating the vehicle on US-71 South when she fell asleep. They say the vehicle traveled across the centerline, left the roadway, and went through a ditch before striking a tree and stopping.

According to the social media post, one of the females was slightly injured. EMS assessed her at the scene and released her without transport.

Both females were driven from the crash scene to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and later released to relatives.

The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police are investigating why two 13-year-old female juveniles from Atlanta, Texas, would be traveling in a vehicle alone at 5:00 a.m.
