Visalia man hides in backyard after firing gun

VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man who hid in the backyard of a home in Visalia after “negligently” firing a gun was arrested Saturday evening, the Visalia Police Department announced.

Police say just before 8:45 p.m. they responded to the 900 block of north Rinaldi Street for a report of a man with a gun.

Officers say before they arrived they learned the suspect had fired shots and fled the scene.

Using a drone, investigators report they found 33-year-old Joel Martinez hiding in a nearby backyard. He surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.

Police say Martinez was eventually booked on suspicion of child endangerment, assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, brandishing a firearm, and resisting arrest.

No injuries were reported.
