BATON ROUGE, La. (KLFY) — The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has a message for anglers who find themselves hooking a non-native invasive species of fish.
The northern snakehead versus the bowfin
The Northern Snakehead is a highly predatory fish that closely resembles the
Louisiana native Bowfin. LDWF warns that the Northern Snakehead threatens our native species by outcompeting and preying on them, potentially devastating both recreational and commercial fisheries.
LDWF said if you think you have caught a Northern Snakehead you should take a side-view photo of the fish, kill it and report its exact location to their Aquatic Invasive Species Hotline at 225-765-3977 if possible.
