SHENANDOAH – The wood is now gone from the home grandstands at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Shenandoah Valley School District approved a project to replace them with aluminum stands in November. Stadium Solutions, Inc., of Butler, received the contract at a cost of $507,300.
This week, the metal frame of the stands and the press box remained, stripped of the familiar Columbia blue and white boards.
The stands, the last wooden football grandstands in Schuylkill County, have become more difficult to repair and keep safe in recent years, school officials said.
Construction efforts will continue when weather improves.
