World War II era hand grenade found in Shreveport, safely removed

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A concerned citizen called emergency responders after discovering a hand grenade while cleaning a storage building on February 4, 2025, according to the Shreveport Fire Department (SFD). Technicians from the SFD Bomb Squad analyzed the device and determined it was a World War II era hand grenade.

They contacted Barksdale Air Force Base (BAFB) for assistance from Explosive Ordnance Disposal

(EOD) members. Fire personnel said SFD Bomb Squad and BAFB EOD safely removed to the grenade to safe location. They do not know where the grenade came from or how long it had been there.

“This circumstance serves as a great reminder for all to remain vigilant and report any
suspicious items to the proper authorities,” said Daniel McDonnell, Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief. “The safest course of action is to avoid touching or attempting to move these items. Remember: If you see something, say something.”
