The lights could be seen all across the downtown area. From pyrotechnic pieces to interactive exhibits, there’s something for everyone.
At Portland’s World Trade Center, 37 of the over 180 artists across the metro were stationed with tons of amazing structures, including a fire-breathing dragon.
“It’s magical. It’s a lot of fun,” one visitor said.
“Certainly, we know the snow was a setback, right? But I think we handled it very well, we had all of our emergency management teams out there cleared the roads,” added Portland Mayor Keith Wilson. “The light festival is just rocking.”
The pieces aren’t just pretty to look at, a lot of them are interactive. You can walk through cool tunnels and change the light patterns on other fixtures as well.
“I think the greatest thing for me as an artist is having people enjoy my artwork. Not so much about the fame, not so much about the social media, it’s just about getting people to see the artwork, even if it’s from standing back from a distance,” said artist Elwood Flatt.
“It’s really just a heartwarming thing,” added Therese Gietler, the organizer of the festival.
Light festival events continue on Saturday in the early evening and go on until 10 p.m.
