The award is based on an independent survey of more than 217,000 U.S. employees working for companies employing at least 1,000 people within the United States. In total, over 6.5 million employer evaluations were considered. The evaluation process includes two types of assessments: personal evaluations (from employees themselves) and public evaluations (from friends, family, or others in the same industry). Personal evaluations are weighted more heavily in the final score.
