Man faces felony murder charge in teen’s shooting death outside United Center

CHICAGO — A 19-year-old man faces two felony charges in connection with a robbery and shooting outside an October concert at the United Center that left an Elgin teen dead.

Deron Wolfe was arrested at his Rantoul, Illinois home on Friday afternoon, authorities said. He was charged with one felony count of murder in connection with the death of 18-year-old Jess Kendall. He was also hit with one felony count of armed robbery of a 17-year-old girl.

Kendall and four friends were headed to the United Center on Oct. 20 to attend a Lil Durk concert when they were robbed and attacked at gunpoint on the 100 block of North Wolcott Avenue. Kendall was pistol-whipped and shot during the confrontation and passed away a few hours later at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Wolfe was scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Monday.
