The city says the free WaterSense-certified smart irrigation controllers are signal-based and use local weather and landscape conditions to tailor watering schedules. By using local conditions like this, the average home can save more than 7,600 gallons of water annually.
According to the city, these smart irrigation controllers can also be controlled remotely, allowing residents to manage their outdoor water use anytime and anywhere.
The city is offering a free retrofit to 1,505 qualifying single-family residential homes, 215 timers per district. The irrigation controllers are available on a first-come, first-served basis to City of Fresno Water customers. Those interested can apply online here.
Funding was provided by a WaterSMART Water-Energy Efficient Grant from the Bureau of Reclamation.
