Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba seeks third term

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The deadline to qualify for municipal elections in the City of Jackson was Friday, January 31.

All eyes were waiting on incumbent Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba to enter his name before the 5:00 p.m. deadline. The mayor, along with Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens and City Councilman Aaron Banks, Ward 6, were indicted in a federal bribery scheme. Banks is not running for reelection.

Lumumba filed to run for reelection shortly before the deadline on Friday. He is seeking a third term.
