UPDATE: Suspect accused of firing shots at officers arrested after manhunt in Albany

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was apprehended when he was located in a brushy area outside the Shackelford County Sheriff’s Office, where he fled on foot after crashing on Baird Street Tuesday.

This suspect is accused of initiating a police chase that started during a traffic stop in Abilene and ended with the crash, which the Texas Department of Public Safety says was caused by spike strips.

Shots were fired at law enforcement during the chase, but DPS says no one has been injured.

The Abilene Police Department SWAT team, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Shackelford County Sheriff’s Office, and the Albany Fire Department and EMS all assisted in the search. Helicopters and drones were also deployed.

Albany ISD was on a soft lockdown as a precaution due the manhunt, but the Sheriff’s Office says there was never a threat to any campus. Dismissal was delayed until an “all-clear” was given by law enforcement.

No further information, including the suspect’s identity, has been released at this time.
