Man dies in Jefferson County farming accident

RIGBY — A 70-year-old Rigby man died in Jefferson County Friday after a farming accident, deputies said. 

Jon Edward Simmons was identified as the man who died, according a news release by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. 

Deputies responded to a report of a farming accident in the area of 25 North 4400 East in Rigby at 2:50 p.m. The caller reported someone had been run over by a tractor and was not breathing, the release said. 

Life-saving measures were unsuccessful and Simmons was pronounced dead on the scene. 

“Sheriff (Steve) Anderson and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office offers condolences to the Simmons family for their loss,” the release said. 

The investigation is ongoing.
