IDAHO FALLS — A 24-year-old Idaho Falls man was arrested after officials reportedly found him in possession of child pornography.
Trustin Mcmurphy is charged with ten felony counts of willfully possessing or accessing child pornography.
Court documents say on Jan 30, Google submitted a cyber tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding seven files of child pornography that had reportedly been uploaded to an account. Police say the associated Google account was owned by Mcmurphy.
Detectives with the Idaho Falls Police Department were granted a search warrant for the Google account, where they say they initially found 12 files containing child pornography.
According to police reports, detectives also found multiple videos of a group of people hiking, where the hikers are referring to the person filming them as “Trustin.”
Detectives served a search warrant on Mcmurphy’s house on Sept. 25, where they reportedly seized a Samsung cell phone and a desktop PC.
After searching the contents of both devices, detectives say they found 135 more files of child pornography showing children between the ages of two and fourteen being raped.
During the search warrant, Mcmurphy was taken to the police station where he reportedly admitted to owning the Google account and to “accessing, downloading, viewing and saving files that contain (child pornography),” according to court documents.
Mcmurphy was released after his initial interview. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Monday, and he was booked into the Bonneville County Jail that same day, on a bond of $250,000.
He is expected he appear for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 8. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.
Though Mcmurphy has been charged with these crimes, this does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
