GRAND ISLE, La. (WGNO) — Officials with the Audubon Aquarium Rescue have announced the release of 15 endangered sea turtles rescued from a cold stunning event.

According to a news release, the kemp’s ridley sea turtles were found dehydrated and injured in Massachusetts due to cold weather exposure.

Audubon officials said the turtles were flown to the Audubon Aquarium Rescue for additional care and recovery efforts after being treated in Massachusetts.

On Thursday, March 20, the sea turtles were taken to Grand Isle and reunited with the water after aquarium rescue team members released them into the Gulf.

Audubon officials said 13 other turtles rescued from the cold stunning event will remain in their care until they are healthy enough to be released.
