Destin Premium WordPress Theme

Destin Premium WordPress Theme

destin_full

It’s been a while since I’ve updated bavotasan.com. I was distracted with raising my daughters, renovating my house and making a short film. In between all of that I still managed to support everyone who purchased one of my themes and somehow squeezed together a new theme called DESTIN.

It’s a darker theme built using Masonry and some new 3D hover effects. The final products is quite cool and I hope it will inspire people to create some awesome website.

Check out the demo or go to Themes by bavotasan.com to try out the basic version or buy the premium version.

bbPress New Topics Plugin

bbPress New Topics Plugin

bbpress-new-topics

With the refresh of Themes by bavotasan.com I reinstated the bbPress support forum. Way back in the day, I used Vanilla forum and there was one feature they offered that I really miss: whenever a new topics was created or there was a unread reply, a ‘New’ label was added to easily identify those topics.

It took some time of digging into the bbPress code to figure out how to accomplish the same thing, but I managed to get it working. It’s a small plugin that does nothing more than what the description says:

Displays a “new” label on topics that are unread or have unread replies for all keymasters and moderators.

Try it out and let me know if you encounter any issues or if you find it helpful.

Responsive Video jQuery Plugin

For the longest time I had been using this responsive video script to resize all my videos on the fly. Recently it started giving me some issues since most sites like YouTube starting changing up how they embedded their videos. I decided to go back to square one to figure out a better approach.

After reading Chris Coyier’s Rundown of Handling Flexible Media the option I thought would work best included equal parts CSS and jQuery.

So I give to you my Responsive Video jQuery Plugin:

/**
 * jQuery.responsiveVideo
 * Version 1.1
 * Copyright (c) 2014 c.bavota - http://bavotasan.com
 * Dual licensed under MIT and GPL.
 * Date: 01/16/2014
 **/
( function($) {
	$.fn.responsiveVideo = function() {
		// Add CSS to head
		$( 'head' ).append( '' );

		// Gather all videos
		var $all_videos = $(this).find( '
				iframe[src*="player.vimeo.com"],
				iframe[src*="youtube.com"],
				iframe[src*="youtube-nocookie.com"],
				iframe[src*="dailymotion.com"],
				iframe[src*="kickstarter.com"][src*="video.html"],
				object,
				embed' );

		// Cycle through each video and add wrapper div with appropriate aspect ratio if required
		$all_videos.not( 'object object' ).each( function() {
			var $video = $(this);

			if ( $video.parents( 'object' ).length )
				return;

			if ( ! $video.prop( 'id' ) )
				$video.attr( 'id', 'rvw' + Math.floor( Math.random() * 999999 ) );

			$video
				.wrap( '
' ) .removeAttr( 'height' ) .removeAttr( 'width' ); } ); }; } )(jQuery);

I put the whole thing up on BitBucket so you can go there to see some examples. Also feel free to contribute if you discovers ways to improve on the code.

Free iMac, iPhone and iPad Vectors

Free iMac, iPhone and iPad Vectors

responsive-vectors_big

When I was working on the redesign for my themes site, I wanted to show off the responsive aspect of my newer themes by using different devices to display how each theme would look using that device. Problem was, I couldn’t find any suitable vectors for the three devices I wanted to use: an iMac, iPhone and iPad.

I grabbed some images off of Apple.com and tried my best to create vectors for each one using Illustrator. They turned out pretty good so here they are for anyone else who might find a use for them.

Private Site Plugin for WordPress

Sometimes, you may have a site that you want to be viewed by only logged in users. Especially if it’s some type of internal tool used by a private company or group. I recently needed to this on a site I was using to test out some themes, so I thought I would share it in case someone out there needed something similar.

It’s not a very complicated plugin but it gets the job done.

Here’s the code:

is_login() ) {
			wp_redirect( admin_url() );
			exit;
		}
	}

	public function is_login() {
    	return in_array( $GLOBALS['pagenow'], array( 'wp-login.php', 'wp-register.php' ) );
    }
}
$bavotasan_private = new Bavotasan_Private;

You can download it through the link below.

WideText jQuery Plugin

WideText jQuery Plugin

WideText jQuery Plugin 3

Working with fully responsive elements on a website is an absolute must since there are so many ways to access a site nowadays. You might be at home on your desktop, at school on your tablet or riding the bus while surfing on your smartphone. Each of those devices has a different maximum browser width so different settings are required to make your site look the best on each one. Gridiculous is a great place to start when it comes to building a responsive site, but since it only uses CSS, there is one component missing… the ability to have fully responsive text.

In order to get something like this working correctly, you need to use JavaScript, or even better, jQuery. WideText is a lightweight jQuery plugin that can resize your text according to the width of the browser window. The source code is up on Bitbucket and you can see it in action on the WideText example site I put together.
