CALIFORNIA, Md. — Kona Ice of St. Mary’s County is getting a new chapter, with the Wiesemann family taking over the local franchise and keeping the familiar shaved-ice truck in the community.
The announcement comes several months after longtime owner Chuck Jacobs shared that summer 2026 would be a “farewell tour” for Kona Ice of St. Mary’s County due to personal reasons.
Rather than disappearing from local events, the business will continue under the Wiesemann family.
Chuck and Leigh Jacobs spent years building Kona Ice into a familiar sight at schools, churches, birthday parties, fundraisers, festivals, businesses and community events across St. Mary’s County.
The new owners credited the Jacobs family with creating the local relationships they now hope to carry forward.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Chuck and Leigh Jacobs for the legacy they’ve built and the relationships they’ve created throughout our community,” the Wiesemann family wrote. “We’re honored to carry that legacy forward and continue serving the families, schools, businesses, and organizations that have made Kona Ice such a special part of St. Mary’s County.”
Kona Ice of St. Mary’s County will continue offering mobile shaved ice for birthday parties, school and church events, company picnics, employee appreciation events, community festivals, sports teams, tournaments and other gatherings.
For residents who thought this summer might mark the end of the local truck, the ownership change means Kona Ice will remain part of the St. Mary’s County event scene.
The Wiesemann family can be reached at smc@kona-ice.com or 240-309-9906 for bookings and additional information.
