LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Juno likes to spend her time relaxing in a hiding hut. Nutmeg is more social and usually ready to say hello when treats are involved. Sauerkraut has a habit of rearranging her huts, and Bean loves running around the cage.
Together, they make up a group of six guinea pigs that needs a temporary foster home in the Lexington Park area while their owner serves with the Maryland National Guard.
The foster period will run from Nov. 1, 2026, through Nov. 18, 2027. There is one important requirement: Juno, Nutmeg, Strudel, Sauerkraut, Bean and Taffie have always lived together, and their new foster must keep the group together.
Six Guinea Pigs, Six Personalities
Operation Foster, a program operated by PACT, is helping find a temporary home for the group. The program connects pets with volunteer foster families when their owners face military deployment or medical treatment.

For these six guinea pigs, the search means finding someone willing to make room for six very different personalities. Juno, a 7-year-old American guinea pig, has a calm, low-energy personality and enjoys relaxing in her hiding hut.

Nutmeg, a 3-year-old hairless guinea pig, is social and talkative and often comes over to greet people when treats are involved.

Strudel, a 5-year-old Peruvian, has a goofy personality and acts motherly toward the younger guinea pigs.

Sauerkraut, a 5-year-old Rex, enjoys rearranging her huts and becomes cuddly after she gets comfortable.

Bean and Taffie are both 1 year old.

Bean, a White Crested, has a sweet personality with a mischievous streak and loves running around her cage. Taffie, a hairless guinea pig, is shy and still developing her personality, but she enjoys spending time with the rest of the group.
Keeping The Group Together
Operation Foster matches pet owners with volunteer foster homes until the animals can reunite with their families.
In this case, the goal is simple: find one local home where all six guinea pigs can remain together until their owner returns. Anyone interested in fostering Juno, Nutmeg, Strudel, Sauerkraut, Bean and Taffie can complete the foster application here: Foster Application
