Aptitude Software has appointed Kenneth Paqvalén as its new Chief Financial Officer. He assumes the role after Mike Johns, the previous CFO, stepped down from the board in February 2025, amid restructuring efforts. Johns has subsequently moved to Big Technologies plc. During the interim period, Alex Curran and the executive team took on the responsibility for the role. The appointment of Paqvalén comes as the company aims to scale its AI-native Finance ERP, Fynapse. Fynapse is an AI-native Finance ERP platform built for real-time financial management. It captures every event as auditable data, offering live General Ledger reports, automated revenue recognition, and native MCP support to run AI workflows directly inside governed accounting systems.
Paqvalén has over two decades of experience in financial leadership positions and over ten years as a CFO. It has taken time for Curran to find a replacement CFO. With Paqvalén, she has found someone with experience from the tech industry who will help support the growth of the company.
Paqvalén will oversee investment and capital allocation while serving as a commercial partner to Curran and the board. Alex Curran, CEO at Aptitude Software, commented, “Kenneth joins Aptitude at a pivotal point in our journey. We have a significant opportunity ahead of us with Fynapse, and we’re focused on scaling the business to capture it.
“He brings deep financial leadership experience, a strong commercial mindset and a proven track record of helping SaaS and AI businesses grow. He also understands how the role of the CFO is changing: from steward of the numbers to a strategic co-pilot to the business. That perspective will be invaluable as we accelerate Fynapse, strengthen our commercial execution and pursue the opportunity we see in Finance ERP.”
Who is Kenneth Paqvalén
Paqvalén joins the firm from Napier AI, a UK-based financial technology company (RegTech). It provides artificial intelligence and machine learning tools for Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and financial crime compliance.
While Paqvalén was not part of the team that raised the growth funding from Marlin Equity, he oversaw the rapid international expansion of the firm fueled by that finance. At R3, as CFO, he was responsible for finance and corporate development. Which included around 20 investments in startups, and professional services.
He helped scale several other SaaS businesses. He spent three years at Matillon as CFO, helping that business to grow from $150 million to $1.5bn in revenue. His first CFO role was at MariaDB, where he was responsible for Finance, HR, Legal, Corp Dev and IT. He spent seven years at the firm helping the company raise £25 million to help expand its platform.
Earlier in his career, he spent nine years at Nokia Siemens Networks, joining Nokia. Subsequently helping with the integration between Nokia Networks and Siemens Communications. He also played a key role in the acquisition of Motorola Networks.
Kenneth Paqvalén, new CFO for Aptitude Software, adds, “It’s an exciting time to be joining. Fynapse is what CFOs have been waiting for – a Finance ERP that gives them a real-time P&L, numbers they can defend to a board, and the data foundation their AI strategy depends on. That’s the difference between finance reporting on what happened and finance shaping what happens next.
“I look forward to applying my experience with scaling high-growth companies to strengthen financial foundations and continue the development of the product base, while maintaining a focus on customers and their positive experience of the software.”
Paqvalén served as an officer in the Finnish Navy and has an MSc from Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) (Now part of Aalto University)
Paqvalén (born in Finland with Swedish as his mother tongue) has been working worldwide from a London base for the past two decades. He lives there with his wife and two children.
Enterprise Times: What Does This Mean
Paqvalén’s record of scaling technology companies supports Aptitude’s ambition to expand its global enterprise market share. His enterprise SaaS expertise should strengthen financial discipline, sharpen commercial strategy, and reinforce Aptitude’s position in next-generation financial software.
His experience in funding and M&A, as well as supporting organisational expansion in the role of CFO, lends well to the ambition of Aptitude Software. With Curran now having a CFO in place, it will be interesting to see what 2027 holds. As CFO of a real-time financial ERP, will he also become a spokesperson for the firm with clients and publicly?
