In a world of rising prices, dreaded fees are difficult to afford, especially when trying to save money as much as possible.

It is helpful when companies have a monthly membership that can award you discounts and benefits by cutting down prices. Some companies offer lending hands to students in school for an even cheaper price of compared to a regular folk’s full monthly premium. But what’s better than a discounted membership? A free membership.

DoorDash, a food delivery service app, is offering a one-year free membership, known as DashPass, to students for free.

DoorDash specifically discloses in their FAQ this membership is for new members only. If someone has an active account and would like to get these benefits the student would have to cancel their current subscribed plan and change their membership to the student one.

To claim this benefit you can go to the settings of your DoorDash account and press “Manage DashPass” and find the student subscription option. Make sure your account is signed in so that the membership can be linked to your account. Students enter full names, school locations and student email. After verifying the account, you will be granted  membership.

In cases of the email verification failing, a manual verification process may be required simply by submitting a school issued document. This verification process may take up to a day to review, then the subscriber will receive a notification of the account update. This subscription is reserved only for students in “university or post-secondary school” as stated in their FAQs about the subscription.

After the year membership expires the user will be reverted to  a base student monthly premium of $4.99. Sheer ID the site used to activate the membership verifies the students status. Once SheerID confirms the student has graduated or any inactivity the membership will default to the standard $9.99 monthly subscription.

While the DashPass membership will recive a monthly account recharge that does not halt from any fees that weren’t able to be discounted or removed completely.

Recently DoorDash fees have changed to what can be called a location charge, meaning fees are determined by your ordering location and the place you’re ordering from. With the help of the student membership orders can get a price cut, making orders more affordable than an order without a subscription. Users will also get codes for discounts on the final total amount with their DashPass memership.

Jacqueline Hannan, a student at Brookhaven, said, “Not having to pay extra fees and when it comes to staying on campus all day can be helpful. College students deserve more food.”

Jeffery Chanta of Brookhaven’s Student Empowerment, said, “All benefits start with their ID. I encourage students, whether it’s their first or third time it is important to get your student ID to showcase your pride and being a Dallas College student and unlock those helpful benefits.”

DoorDash is offering this opportunity for students only for a limited time last day to get the free subscription is Oct. 12, 2026.
