ASHLAND – As Ashland would typically be celebrating the ABA Parade, the family of two mayors are helping put the town’s history on display via a t-shirt quilt.
The quilt combines t-shirts collected by husband and wife Norbert Noon and Rosemarie Noon. Norbert was elected mayor in 1994 and passed away a year later. Rosemarie completed his term and won two elections of her own, serving until 2006.
They collected a wide variety of t-shirts while supporting Ashland area causes over the years.
In 2010, they were turned into a quilt by the Campus Quilt Company.
The family donated the quilt to the Ashland Area Historic Preservation Society recently.
“The colorful t-shirt quilt advances the Ashland Area Historic Preservation Society’s dedication to preserving the rich history of the ABA Parade,” a description on display with the quilt reads.
Many of the shirts, as expected, are for the ABA Mummer’s Parade, a bygone tradition started by the Ashland Boys’ Association.
Other sections recognize Ashland’s sesquicentennial, the 50th anniversary of the Mother’s Memorial, North Schuylkill football, the Pioneer Tunnel, Cardinal Brennan, and Danny’s Drive-In.
Rosemarie and Norbert’s photo are on display alongside the quilt.
