MAHANOY CITY – A pierogie eating contest, train rides, and the polkas. What more could you want?
Mahanoy City Community Day returns this Saturday with all of the above and more.
The event takes place from 10am to 4pm in downtown Mahanoy City.
Returning are the ever-popular train rides through the Mahanoy Valley, courtesy of the Reading and Northern Railroad.
There are three 70-minute round trip train rides planned. Two will go to Ashland — one at 11am and another at 3pm — and one will go to Tamaqua at 1pm. Cost is $23 for adults and $9 for children ages 3-12. Children 2 and under are free. Tickets are available online or at the Mahanoy City Food Store.
Numerous food trucks, craft vendors, and more will be set up.
There will also be face painting.
A highlight of the day is the pierogie eating contest at noon.
The Shenandoah All Star Polka Band will perform, as will Catch 23.
