A fundraiser for a young girl whose mother died while protecting her from a house fire in St. Paul has provided an update on her recovery.
According to a GoFundMe set up to help the family with medical expenses, the girl has had her trach removed and is occasionally awake, but remains mildly sedated so she can heal.
The fundraiser says the girl now requires skin grafts on her left shoulder and left calf as the burns are not healing properly in those areas.
As previously reported, the girl is the daughter of 38-year-old Bonnie Pierce, who ran back into a burning duplex to protect her daughter.
According to the GoFundMe, firefighters found Pierce shielding her daughter with her own body inside the burning building.
Pierce was taken to the hospital but was severely injured and later died from her injuries.
You can help support the family through the GoFundMe.
