A Virginia-based developer plans to outline its proposal for a 20-megawatt data center in Minneapolis at a North Loop neighborhood meeting on Wednesday.

According to the North Loop Neighborhood Association (NLNA), Legacy Investing will present its plans for its proposed data center and multi-use development at the former Star Tribune printing facility.

The NLNA will host a Zoom meeting with Legacy Investing leadership, including Managing Partner Daniel English and Vice President of Development Ari Chernikoff. NLNA’s planning and zoning committee meeting will run from 6-8 p.m.

Although the sale is not complete, the firm has begun the approval process with the city of Minneapolis. The NLNA said it has not taken a position on the project.

NLNA leaders said that with the announcement of the proposed project, they realized they wanted to help the public understand what a data center means.

“We could start feeling the tension of what was going to happen with this”, said David Crary, Vice President of the North Loop Neighborhood Association. “We are just trying to help the community understand the impact.”

The association is also encouraging North Loop residents to attend its community workshops in collaboration with the University of Minnesota’s Minnesota Design Center (MDC). The next workshop is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Itasca Event Gallery.

MDC will present a summary report to North Loop residents at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fulton Beer Taproom. The report will also be shared with the developer and city leaders.
