Viaplay Rolls Out Next-Generation Allente STB Experience Powered by 3SS 3Ready

Viaplay Group has launched a next-generation set-top box user experience for its Allente service, powered by 3 Screen Solutions (3SS) and the company’s 3Ready platform, the companies said Tuesday.

The new Allente user experience, live since early August, is designed to serve both streaming-first and traditional live-TV viewers across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Viaplay, which became sole owner of Allente in 2025 after buying Telenor’s 50% stake for SEK 1.1 billion, is offering the updated UX to subscribers with new hardware and a customizable remote control.

Viaplay is supplying subscribers with a 4 TOPS NPU AI set-top box from SDMC that runs Android TV 14 Operator Tier and uses an Amlogic S905X5-J system-on-chip and a 64-bit quad ARM CPU. The box includes a neural processing unit to run on-device artificial intelligence and machine learning tasks. The company said a programmable Notus L12 remote from t4h. (Tech4home) is also being offered; it allows users to assign up to four custom shortcut buttons and quick access to streaming services.

The 3Ready platform adds profile-based Experience Modes to meet different viewing habits. Live TV Mode opens on the last watched channel to preserve traditional channel surfing. On Demand Mode opens to a home screen with recent streaming services and resume playback options. A Kids Mode filters content to age-appropriate selections and presents a simplified interface.

Third-party streaming services are integrated into the Allente interface so subscribers can discover, bookmark and activate services, the companies said. The platform supports Viaplay, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max and SkyShowtime among others, and enables direct on-device activation.

Other UX changes are meant to speed navigation and keep live viewing in view while browsing. A redesigned zapping and TV guide lets viewers browse live channels without interrupting playback. Ambient colors extend on-screen content into surrounding interface elements, and picture-in-picture on the home screen keeps live TV or VOD visible while users explore other content.

“Through our close collaboration with 3SS, and the capabilities of the 3Ready platform, alongside state-of-the-art technology from SDMC and t4h., we’re delivering true hardware and user experience innovation, and Allente customers can benefit from a modern service that’s fast, stable and user-friendly,” Philip Wågnert, Viaplay executive vice president and chief technology and product officer, said.

Pierre Donath, 3SS chief product and marketing officer, said the Experience Modes aim to avoid compromising either live TV or streaming viewers. Graça Cândido, co-founder and commercial director at t4h., said the Notus L12 turns the remote into a personal, software-defined touchpoint.

Viaplay and 3SS said the new Allente experience will be demonstrated at 3SS’s Stand 5.A85, during IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, Sept. 11-14.
